General Notes:
In response to the World Trade Center disaster, the ASPCA has placed a fully-equipped mobile veterinary unit on the corner of Houston St. and West St. at the Hudson River in NYC. The ASPCA is now working with other authorities to remove pets from homes in the buffer zone (south of Canal St.). The ASPCA is providing emergency relief services to any areas where they can gain access to pets in need.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the site of the mobile clinic, please e-mail volunteer@aspca.org.

For more updated information, you can call the ASPCA Disaster Relief Hotline at (212) 876-7700 ext. 4PET.

Washington, D.C. September 11, 2001 -- The search and rescue response to the World Trade Center and the Pentagon is being managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA is urging those interested in helping victims of the apparent terrorist events to give blood or cash donations. Those interested in giving blood should call the American Red Cross blood donation hotline, at 1-800-448-3543. The American Red Cross can accept cash donations through 1-800-HELP NOW or www.redcross.org and the Salvation Army can accept financial contributions through 1-800-SAL ARMY. Persons who wish to donate their services should contact their local American Red Cross office.

FEMA does not accept donations, but works closely with volunteer agencies that provide a wide variety of services after emergencies, including childcare, crisis counseling, sheltering and food.

HUDSON COUNTY ANIMAL LEAGUE TO ASSIST LOCAL ANIMALS IN NEED

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Hudson County Animal League has set up an emergency network to help any animals who may be in need as a result of yesterday's disaster. Many residents of the area worked in downtown Manhattan and unfortunately may not be returning home to their pets. Our immediate concern is to find out where these animals are located, make sure they are not brought to a shelter and provide them with food and water until each situation can be assessed.

If you know of a pet owner in Hoboken, Jersey City or Bayonne who has not returned home, please call one of the following numbers:

201-437-1816
201-656-1551
201-239-9254
Leave your name, phone number and the name and address of the pet and pet owner you are concerned about.

We are notifying the local police departments, health departments, vets and other rescue groups in the area. Please help to get the word out so we can keep these animals out of immediate danger.

Hudson County Animal League is a non-profit all volunteer organization. If you would like to volunteer, please call our hotline 201-200-1008.
